TORONTO’S NEW CYCLIST’S PARADISE

IMPROVED CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO GET AROUND IN THE NEW LAWRENCE HEIGHTS

Cycling as a primary form of transport has been growing in popularity across Toronto in recent years. In fact, the Toronto Star reported late last year that in some downtown neighbourhoods the percentage of people commuting by bicycle is over 30%. Outside of the downtown core the number of cyclists is also increasing, up from 1.7% in 2006 to 2.7% last year.

Cycling has a lot of benefits. It’s better for your health and significantly cheaper than owning a car. You never have to pay for parking and during rush-hour traffic, it can often be as fast or faster than driving.

In The New Lawrence Heights, bike lanes will be a central feature of life. With dedicated lanes on major streets and a linear park and path system running along both sides of the Allen Road, this new bike infrastructure will provide safer, more convenient ways to travel on two wheels throughout the neighbourhood. Connecting to an extensive system of bike paths and lanes in the city, you can easily and safely bike from the New Lawrence Heights through the 9km Beltline Trail and make your way downtown.

You can even enjoy the convenience of riding your bike to Yorkdale Subway Station where you can either take your bike on the subway (except during peak hours), or use the bike racks on the front of many TTC buses at any time to speed across the city in comfort.

These new bike lanes are just one of the many exciting things coming soon to The New Lawrence Heights.
